The Altar Is Not a Stage

As is the case for many American towns, driving around my hometown on a Sunday morning, one is guaranteed to see families dressed in their “Sunday best” walking down the street, crowded church parking lots, and groups gathering and mingling around an ornately dressed figure. To this day in America churches are the focal points of Sunday. But why?
A Prayer About Boredom

Sometimes I wonder if you know what it feels like to be bored. If you would deal with it any better than we do. I know you can take the extremes of human experience, hunger and pain and persecution. What I wonder about is the monotony. I wonder if you, Lord, would be able to deal with the routine of over and over, same and same, again and again. Do you know that feeling? That desperation?

Second Draft Workshop

Second drafts for our print publication are due Oct 31st, so this meeting will cover common problems in the first drafts, what to think about for the second draft, and some ideas on how to make the pieces talk to each other and flow.

Content Editing Workshop

For our print publication, we will be conducting content editing in person. At the Elm Institute, and guided by Peter Wicks, you will be paired with a partner and will each edit each other’s pieces for content and discuss what worked and what didn’t.

For our print publication, we will be conducting copy editing in person. You will be paired with a partner and will each edit each other’s pieces for grammar and punctuation, and polish off anything else needed in the draft.
